Cocktails at the Castle: Bonfires, Birchwood and Decoupage Revisited
Tuesday, April 30, 7-11 p.m.
Celebrate the coming of spring on the eve of May Day with a night full of fire, games, music, live art performances, drinks and DIY crafts.
In Sweden and other parts of Europe, April 30 happens to be Valborgsmässoafton, a celebratory festival that’s a bit difficult to say in English, but easy to understand in content—welcoming spring with large bonfires, music and partying late into the night.
At ASI, we’ll be celebrating (and featuring talent from members of our very own FIKA staff) with live music from local bands/artists Teenage Moods, Dan Mariska and the Boys Choir, and Zac HB, plus an ongoing DJ set from Slipmats Radio.
The night includes bonfires, a cash bar, live art performance, and FIKA food stands in ASI’s outdoor courtyard between the historic Turnblad castle and the contemporary Nelson Cultural Center. You’ll have the opportunity to make your own birchwood plaque like those in the exhibition #NameThisExhibit – 1200 Birchwood Plaques from Sweden’s Postfuturistic Society. Come and compare your artistic hand to those of the itinerant, informal artists of the 1950s. Staff from Angry Catfish Bicycle Shop + Coffee Bar will be on hand to do bicycle safety checks, minor repairs, and serve coffee.
This event has a cover charge of $7 per person. This event is for ages 18+. Doors open at 7 p.m. Bar closes at 11 p.m.
We love bikes! Ride your bike, bring your helmet in and receive $1 off beverages all night.
